Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do! It is also one of the reasons why Agaplantus was created. We want have the most minimal impact we can on the place we live in- the Planet Earth. Some could ask- why create another company that will have an impact on the Earth anyway, why not let those that exist do what they do? Well, Agaplantus exists to show that it is possible to run a business in a different, more sustainable way and that can bring satisfaction and have a positive impact on local environment and community.

Shop local

We source our products locally and make sure they are not made and transported from the other side of the world.  All artwork is made in the UK and by selling it we support local artists and makers.

Books

The books we sell in the shop are pre-owned in perfect condition (those that are in ‘good’ condition will be listed as such in the item’s description) that would have otherwise gone to the landfill. Our books are on the subjects of plants, the Doughnut economic model and sustainability. As they are second-hand items, we do not exclude books printed abroad.

Plants

The plants in the store are either homegrown or come from European nurseries but with at least a couple of weeks spent in home conditions. By buying our plants, you can be confident that you are getting the highest quality product that will not die within a week or two. Most if not all plant shops keep their plants in perfect conditions that most people are unable to provide. So, when the plants  finally get to their final destination – your home – they struggle to survive. We have experienced this ourselves, and we know how heartbreaking it can be to say goodbye to the plant you bought only three or four weeks ago.

By buying from us you are confident the plants are in a good shape and used to regular condition found in most homes. If you would like to get a beautiful self- watering locally made decorative pot we have them in store too. The POTR pots are made from recycled plastic in Glasgow and flat packed to minimise their transport carbon footprint.

Packaging

We use two types of packaging. The first is re-used (i.e. we received our orders in the boxes you  take yours home in). It may not look perfect but will definitely serve its purpose. The second is brand-new, recycled, recyclable and plastic-free packaging that is made in the UK. We like to support local businesses and want to make sure that as much as possible of the goods we sell and the packaging we use are made in the UK.

Local delivery

We deliver locally by bike and offer collection services in Victoria Park area of Manchester.
